Gluten Free Cinema Style Cheese Sauce for Nachos Recipe

I absolutely love going to the cinema, but I also love nothing better than a cosy movie night in with loads of gluten free snacks.

So I thought why not do this at home? It is cheaper than a box-office ticket and the food prices there and it’s perfect for cosy movie nights.

It’s dead easy to make and you can top your nachos and cheese with anything you desire. I topped mine with bacon, chives and jalapeños but you can use anything!

You could even use this for loaded cheesy fries.

You can store this in an airtight container, for up to 3 days in the fridge. What I like to do if I have some left in the fridge is gently heat it up in the microwave.

  • 15g Butter
  • 1tbsp Gluten Free Plain Flour
  • 300ml double cream
  • 1tsp paprika
  • 100g Red Leicester cheese
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1tbsp of brine from the jar of jalapeños.
  • Chopped chives
  • Cooked bacon bits (any will do)
  • Jalapeños. (In the jar)
  • Gluten Free lightly salted Tortilla chips (Doritos have a ‘May Contain’ but most supermarket own brand ones such as Asda and Tesco are gluten free. Don’t forget to check the labels for allergen information. )
  1. Add the butter to a saucepan and melt on a low heat.
  2. Using a whisk, mix in the plain flour to make a roux.
  3. Pour in the double cream and gently heat, stirring frequently until hot.
  4. Whisk in the paprika.
  5. Add in the Red Leicester cheese and whisk in until well combined.
  6. Add some salt and pepper to taste, the jalapeño brine and stir well.

To serve:

  1. Arrange your tortilla chips into a serving dish/plate/bowl.
  2. Pour over as much sauce as you need.
  3. Sprinkle over the bacon, chives and jalapeños.
  4. Enjoy with your favourite movie!

Happy eating! Geo xx
