One of the main things I’ve struggled with since being gluten free is gluten free bread. Baking it successfully, and finding a nice tasting one are both things I find a complete pain in the butt.
So when I tweeted my disappointment about a supermarket own brand gluten free bread, one lovely gluten free bread company came to the rescue! The Box Bakery, in fact.
So, Who are the Box Bakery?
The Box Bakery are a UK based company who provide easy to bake bread and cake mixes, and they have a gluten free range. They’re Coeliac Accredited, with most of their items being vegan too! As someone who struggled during veganuary to find a nice gluten free and vegan bread, this is so useful!
Their whole concept to me is just wonderful!
The mixes come in recyclable boxes, and all you do is add water, shake, peel the lid off, and bake according to the instructions! For me, I struggle with bread making, as I haven’t quite got the concept of ‘proving’ the bread, I’ve tried various packet mixes and well, frankly, it’s not for me. But these bead mixes from The Box Bakery, I’ve just GOT, (it might help that they’re just easy peasy) and they’ve turned out lovely.
Their gluten free bread mixes come in a pack of 5, and within it you get:
- 1x Classic Chocolate Cake Mix
- 2x White Bread Mix with Sunflower and Linseeds
- 2x Wholegrain Bread Mix with Linseeds, Sunflower and Pumpkin Seeds and Quinoa
They retail for £21.55 on their website, which does mean that it equates to £4.31 per mix, which might be out of some people’s price range. But they have discount codes regularly, and they are so fun to bake! As well as this, the bread tastes amazing both on its own and toasted.
Even though they already have the instructions on them, they have tips on them, so you can pimp them up a little. So with the bread, you can add olives, chopped sun-dried tomatoes etc… and with the chocolate cake mix, you can replace some of the water with Baileys, which sounds amazing to be honest.
I just can’t get over how easy they are to use. And because you mix them and bake them in the box, it means no cross-contamination, and also no washing up, which I am SO here for. I can’t wait to try the chocolate cake mix, and pimp it up a little!
